Welcome to S Athya's baby!!!

Dear SaGa,
One more family member has joined the list of people waiting for you!!! This member is the cutest, sweetest and the most innocent of all... we all welcomed on 19th nov your very own brother/Anna/Bhaiya into this world where he will be surrounded by people who will all love him, adore him and ensure only the best for him always. I saw his snaps and he looks more like he will be a good partner in crime for you :) It is too early to tell if he looks like your Sup Athya or H Kaka. In a month from now, you can take a look at him and tell me what you think ok? ;) until then why dont you think of a name for your partner...c'mon, am sure you can do that now considering I have gobbled up atleast 1/2 kilo of badam till now to ensure you have a sharp brain!

Aise hi do baatein ...

I got to actually play an interactive game with my baby a couple of days back and it just made me soooo giggly and happy! It was one of those hyperactive days when SaGa was moving and stretching around until I thought my tummy is gonna pop open now! SaGa finally took a break in such a position that I could see something like an elbow or knee poking out a little bit. I started to rub on it and SaGa pulled in quickly!!! That caused another little protrusion, another rub and the SaGa quickly pulled in from there too!!! ... lol ... I loved it so much that we did this a couple times more until the SaGa said 'uffo, just let me sleep okay, am tired from all that playing!' and it settled in a position that caused no more protrusions :) I am sure I slept with a smile stuck on my face that afternoon :) . I and SaGa have played this game again after that day and I think it is a wonderful timepass for both of us! hehehe ... Only if like the Aladdin lamp, I could rub and say 'Aaja Simsim' and the baby would be out in a whoosh and say 'Kaho, kya hukum hai mere liye Maa' ... lol ...

Reaching the last month of my pregnancy now. Its been quiet a ride so far...literally...so much of travel!!! Just for the records, major travel destinations were Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, India via the serpentine Frankfurt airport and Bangalore before I finally settled down in amchi Mumbai. What i did at each of these locations, well that would be a long story better told in pictures. Will update them here when I switch from dialup to broadband connection.

One of my friend's blog dedicated to Daddy made me think of SJ (my hubby :D) on his way to fatherhood. SJ has been wonderful throughout my pregnancy and so supportive. I am sure he can now write a book on 'A Man's Guide to Pregnancy' .. :) now, now, before you let your imagination wild, what I really mean to say is, he had to pick up on every little bit of information like nutrition facts, prenatal care, pregnancy mood swings and discomforts and how to handle them...I am just so proud of him! Not just because he picked this up but because he did all this with neither a word of complaint nor any hesitation. He sure has been a victim of my cravings as well! Has been to Safeway at midnight to get me that particular kind of apple, has rushed from office to a particular restaurant to get me upma..and boy what a dash it was! He reached the place just 2 min before closing time! He actually learnt to make poha too when I wanted to have some made by somebody else and not me. I really miss your veg sandwiches and gourmet omlet SJ! And yes, the constant supply of fruit salad that he kept for me needs a special mention! It was his task and he ensured such a never ending supply of cut fresh fruits ready to eat in the fridge that today I am spoilt and dont eat fruits until someones cuts it for me :D (Are you listening SJ?) Everything about him is just so adorable... Of course being a full time parent will be a completely different story. But I still have more hopes of doing a good parent job from him than from myself... :)

Chanda hai tu ...

Dear Baby (will call you SaGa from now on ...),
Hey! what an exciting day it was for me! I had an appointment to see you today! (I just hope I dont have to take appointments like this when I grow old!)
We went in for the sonography, my first in India. What a difference from my experience in the US!!. The Polyclinic turned out to be in a dilapidated building, the building entrance also doubled as a gents only open sulabh sauchalay. I felt good to know I had carried an extra home washed bedsheet, just in case I felt the bedsheet in the polyclinic was not clean enough, now that I know that tissues..ahem..does not seem to exist around here. I and mom were waiting for the elevator and there it came gradually, slowly like a royal carriage in slow motion. Just when I wanted to open it, a young liftman in a uniform pulled open the doors for me and that made me feel good!! Finally, there seems to be some sort of order and care... Went up to the polyclinic and entered a very crowded 10*10 setup. But yes, it looked clean, newly renovated and I spotted an assistant and oh ...there was actually a receptionist too! Well, the outside had disappointed me so much that the inside was more than what I expected! I walked up to them and the foll ensued:

me (smiling) : Hi, good morning!
them : naam kya hai..
me (now straight faced) : Gayatri Joshi, obstetric appointme...
them: kaunsa doctor..
me : Dr. Shailaja Ko..
one of them : form bharo.. appointment time ke liye 10 min hai.
Completed the formalities and I and mom then sat down on the yet again suprisingly comfortable benches.
After 5 min, one of them : Abhi 5 min mein aapko jaana hai, ready raho.
The whole excitement of knowing that I will be seeing you soon made it easier to ignore the business like cold attitude of the people around here. We went in and everything looked clean and good inside too. The doc also carried a no-nonsense very cold attitude which did not matter to me anymore.

The scan began and there I saw your legs, then your head, then your stomach, your heart, kidneys and the most exciting of all...FACE! Your face was so much clearer now than the previous scans and you looked sooooooo sooooooo soooooooooo cute!!!! really... u did look like the most cutest kid around! You looked like you have eyes like Appa, a nose like me and lips like Appa too! And oh your cheeks!!.. they looked so nice and rounded! You are head down and now that I know I feel your knees and feet when you move, I so wish I could hold them! I am just waiting to cradle you! Come soon baby, i am waiting .... mmmmmuuuaahhhh.

Chanda hai tu, mera suraj hai tu.
O mere aankhon ka tara hai tu ...
... Jisse bandhi har asha meri
Mera woh sapna salona hai tu
Nanha sa hai kitna sundar hai tu
Chota sa hai kitna pyara hai tu
Chanda hai tu mera suraj hai tu

Baby connection

Dear Baby,

It seems like yesterday when I was waiting for the call from my doc to confirm my pregnancy and am already in the last trimester now!
We already have a connection and I like to believe that we are able to understand each other :) In the mall the other day, I was trying out maternity t-shirts and was envying a smart girl who was waiting to try out a nice tank top. Just when I was feeling bulky and fat, you turned and tapped which made me smile. It was nice as usual to feel you move but your timing made it so meaningful! It made me feel soooo proud! Love you baby!
You dont like me sleeping on my right side and you ensure that you wake me up with your kicks when I unknowingly do that. Like all babies, you love it when I have anything sweet, especially apples. You begin, what me and Appa call, your playtime. My tummy looks like it is disco dancing without music during your playtime! lol ... it is so much fun and we never get tired of watching you! But yeah, there are a couple of spots where I pray you dont venture into... please ... really please.. it kinda hurts ... ouch, there you go again! Hmm....having fun haan... hmm... It is just a matter of another 3 months and we will be playing in a way that is fun for both you and me too! :)

What to eat and what not to eat is the question!

Since I was in the US with parents in India when I got pregnant and happened to consult a very bookish obstetrician who wasnt of much help, I was completely relying on people around me for the first few do's and dont's of pregnancy. Were they useful? Read on and you tell me! ...

DONT eat Baingan - Has a lot of heat!
DO eat all veggies - your body needs every kind of nutrition

DONT eat kesar - Has a lot of heat
DO have kesar badam milk everyday (!?) - kesar will make your baby fair

DONT eat Pineapples - Again heat factor
DO have all fruits except Papaya - Oh thank god there was some consistency with the papaya thing from everyone!

DONT eat - Gavar (Cluster beans) - Dunno why
DO eat Gavar - Has a lot of proteins!

DONT eat Salad! (gotta admit, this one surprised me) - Uncooked food has a lot of potential of holding harmful germs
DO eat Salad and raw veggies/sprouts - Uncooked food has unharmed nutrients
(Phew! both sound equally convincing!)

The foll DONTS with no reasoning provided:
DONT eat :
Drumsticks
Mango
Chillies
Chinese (what do pregnant chinese women eat then?)
Thai (for the chili factor)
Maggi
................. will keep adding to this list as and when I remember new ones!

As for what I did, well I finally realized that following each one of them would only make me starve! So yes, I had everything I wanted to in moderation with the exception of papaya and food containing MSG (ajinomoto) . Of course being a vegetarian helped me keep it simple... otherwise non-veg food items have its own set of complications too!
Also, natural and fresh food seemed the right way to go ... so much so that frozen but 'packed when fresh' fit into my definition of fresh food too :D .

Kick story

Dear Baby,
Welcome to the world of ..er.. fluid and blood as of now ... but soon enough to a world of joy, happiness, love and care :)
To begin with, Mamma and Appa have tried numerous names for you and the most obvious 'Baby' suits you just fine! You have been very good so far and am hoping that you are enjoying as much as I am and are as active as I am. Sure I have started to feel you a lot more and I keep waiting for those kicks :) . After numerous attempts, yesterday Appa felt your kicks on his hands too! You seemed to respond to him talking to you :)
... what? you never heard him? Hmm... but of course we like to label coincidences to 'Oh Baby is so smart already!' :)
But you know what, when Appa, Baby and Mamma created and experienced this glorious moment together is when i truly felt 'This is MY Family'. Will cherish this experience all my life, never mind the fact that you got to kick your parents and actually be appreciated for it too! :)

Here I am...

Hello to the blog world!
Here I am hoping to share life's important moments and experiences for a long time to come...
Last three years have been a constant exploration of unknown territory and blogging is just the latest one ...
Happy exploring to me and to you!
